A few days after Google CEO Sundar Pichai called the rise of vibe coding an emerging trend, Vembu said that vibe coding is nothing but an oversimplification of a deeply layered craft. But Sridhar Vembu Has A Different Point Of View

Sridhar Vembu is clearly saying that coding cannot be reduced to natural-language prompts. He said that every convenient AI interface sit multiple intricate layers of code, compilers, optimisations, and abstractions, all of which are fundamental to how computers actually work. He didn't directly target vibe coding but focused on praising the quality of full-fledged coding. And Sundar Pichai has also said in the past that vibe coding cannot be used to generate code for large and security critical systems.
