Internet reacts to reports
Though the makers have not issued any official statement or confirmed the report by any means, it has managed to leave netizens excited at the sheer thought of watching the full story in one seamless sitting. Many took to X and posted reactions. A user wrote, "This move is a monumental win for the 'Director’s Cut' culture in India, signaling a shift toward respecting the filmmaker's original, uncompromised vision. Adopting the Hong Kong marathon model for a 7-hour and 30-minute epic shows that premium exhibitors (IMAX, EPIQ) finally recognize the appetite for long-form, immersive cinema. The technical upgrade in sound mixing—treating songs as atmospheric BGM—is a sophisticated touch that prioritises narrative flow over traditional commercial breaks, truly catering to the hardcore cinephile."
One fan said, "I would love to see these two movies with the commentary from @AdityaDharFilms, production designer and a few others on Netflix." Another one said, 7hrs 30mins ? Watt . Is this the new era of binge watching?" A user asked, "Are they going to add some new scenes. Liky lyari gangwar, some shots seen in trailer bt not in movie?" One viewer got critical with the rumour: "It will cause headache and eye irritation, I have watched few films like that in continuous shows , many people have felt like that , its not good though."A lot of users, however, called it an April Fool's prank since the rumour and the post surfaced on April 1. "April fools? Why would they release a 7-hour film so soon?" wrote a fan. A second one posted, "April Fools. This post is for engagement farming purpose. No such announcement has been made. The image of CBFC certificate is digitally altered."
Would Dhurandhar extended cut work?
Dhurandhar had a runtime of 3 hours 34 minutes, and Dhurandhar 2, being 3 hours and 55 minutes long, is a benchmark in Bollywood. However, a 7.5-hour-long extended cut might be a straining experience. If at all the makers plan anything on those lines, they need to consider the precedent of Baahubali: The Epic, and condense its story into a more manageable runtime while retaining its scale and impact.
Precedent of Baahubali
Baahubali: The Epic released to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Baahubali: The Beginning (2015). It was a re-edited and remastered single film version of SS Rajamouli's two-part epic saga, The Beginning (2015) and The Conclusion (2017), combining footage from both films with technical enhancements and a previously unreleased scene.
