Stan, whose latest film Fjord is premiering in Competition at Cannes will also be seen playing a supervillain in The Batman: Part II. As Sebastian Stan prepares to step into Gotham’s dark world, the actor recently revealed that The Batman: Part II is shaping up to be one of the biggest creative undertakings of his career. Sebastian Stan, who has already received wide fame for playing Bucky Barnes, or Winter Soldier in MCU is now gearing up to portray Batman villain Harvey Dent, or Two-Face in DCEU. Production on the highly anticipated sequel is expected to begin soon in London - a city that carries personal significance for the actor who had spent a year studying at Shakespeare's Globe back in 2003.
Speaking to Deadline, about the upcoming film, Stan admitted the project comes with enormous expectations, but said that challenge is part of the appeal.“It’s a challenge, like everything else,” he said adding that it feels like it is a “really ambitious movie.” He went on to add, “I think if we do it all right - and obviously I’m so excited about Matt Reeves because he’s been one of my favourites for a long, long time -I really think it’s going to blow people away. It’s going to surprise a lot of people, I think, too.”The actor’s comments are already fueling excitement among fans eager to see director Matt Reeves continue his grounded and noir-inspired take on Gotham City following the success of 2022’s The Batman.Stan, who has spent years in the superhero genre through his role as Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, also reflected on why superhero stories continue to resonate so strongly with audiences — especially younger viewers.“Obviously there’s a reason why Batman’s been re-occurring for so many years, and why so many kids love Spider-Man,” he explained adding that when one is thinking of, honestly or just anything positive for young men and if one is a teenager one has grown up watching it, “It’s about a kid being odd and figuring his way into things. And it works in very subtle ways.”
The titular role of Batman is being essayed by Robert Pattinson, while Zoe Kavitz is essaying Selina Kyle or Catwoman. The sequel will also see the return of Jeffrey Wright (Commissioner Gordon), Andy Serkis (Alfred Pennyworth), and Colin Farrell (Oz Cobb/The Penguin).As anticipation builds around The Batman Part II, Stan’s involvement adds another layer of intrigue to a sequel that is already being positioned as one of DC’s most ambitious upcoming releases.
