The
new Peaky Blinders spinoff series will be led by Jamie Bell, who will carry on the Shelby family legacy as Duke Shelby. He becomes the third actor after Conrad Khan and Barry Keoghan to take on the role of Tommy Shelby's (Cillian Murphy) illegitimate son. Fans are especially surprised by the recast, as Barry was touted as the next generation of the Shelbys in the Netflix movie Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, which released on March 20. Find out more about the BBC and Netflix co-production, which also stars Stranger Things actor Charlie Heaton.
Peaky Blinders spinoff series casts Jamie Bell as Duke Shelby
The Birmingham-based Shelbys are back and the new generation will be led by Duke Shelby in the upcoming Netflix and BBC series.
Rocketman and
Billy Elliott actor Jamie Bell's first look as Duke was also unveiled. The character reunited with his estranged father in the movie
The Immortal Man and together they dispatched the Nazi threat to their hometown in the 1940s. The new series will be set in the 1950s and take place a decade after the film.
The show has already been renewed for two seasons, with
Stranger Things actor Charlie Heaton,
Downton Abbey actress Jessica Brown Findlay and
The Day of the Jackal star Lashana Lynch joining Bell in the lead roles. Lucy Karczewski will be making her TV debut with the spinoff series. In the UK, the show will premiere on the BBC and internationally, it will be available on Netflix.According to a BBC press release, the new series will explore the aftermath of World War Two in Birmingham, following an "older, wiser, more ambitious and more dangerous" Duke. The rest of the actors' roles have not yet been released. Tommy also has another son, Charlie, with his late wife Grace (Annabelle Wallis). In the film, it was revealed that Charlie went off to fight in WWII.
Two new Peaky Blinders series
Besides the series focusing on Duke, there is going to be another
Peaky Blinders show, whose details have yet to be revealed. The recasting of Barry Keoghan just 13 days after
The Immortal Man film is surprising. However, the Irish actor is a bit tied up playing Ringo Starr in the four biopics on
The Beatles by director Sam Mendes.
Bell is around seven years older than Keoghan. Conrad Khan played Duke in
Peaky Blinders Season 6 when the character was first introduced.
