The
Comeback, starring Lisa Kudrow, is well into its final season as her character Valerie Cherish is headlining a new show called How's That?! The big secret about Valerie's new project is that it is being written by AI (Artificial Intelligence). The actress recalled her experiences about making the final season, especially with her son, Julian Stern, who acts alongside her. It was especially emotional for Kudrow as The Comeback filmed on the same soundstage as Friends once did and she remembered bringing Julian with her when he was two years old.
Lisa Kudrow on her full-circle moment with son Julian Stern
During a virtual press conference attended by us, Kudrow explained how it was emotional being back on
Stage 24, where she filmed Friends for a decade as iconic character Phoebe Buffay. She shared, "I have a picture of him at two years old in the craft service kitchen washing his hands. And then there he is back and acting. Oh my God. And part of this finale."
Julian essentially makes his acting debut on the HBO show. Kudrow recalled, "He's been in short films, but not anything like this. That was heaven. And a little bit of guilt because I forgot that he was my son. He was that there and good. And so was I. Because he forgot he was when he said, “I was just talking—I was Evan talking to Valerie.” I didn't have the heart to say, 'Me too, I didn’t care about you.' Yeah, it was really thrilling."
In the show, Julian's character Evan joins Valerie's show as a behind-the-scenes crew member. Another inside joke on
The Comeback is that Friends is mentioned on the show as the camera pans to a plaque on the wall highlighting the series that had been filmed there. Co-creator Michael Patrick King joked, "We were mostly interested in how close we could get to Valerie actually saying the word Friends."
