Stranger Things ended on an emotional note with its season 5, episode 8 titled The Rightside Up. Soon after audience started talking about its striking end credits which was a montage of all the characters
from several scenes across the seasons, in an animated comic book avatar. Playing in the background was the 1977 song Heroes by David Bowie, which became the highlight of the finale. It has now been revealed that actor Joe Keery, who played the beloved role of Steve Harrington was the one who picked the track for showrunners, the Duffer Brothers. For the unversed, Joe is also a famed musician who works under the stage name of DJo.
Heroes in Stranger Things
Heroes is about two lovers who dream they are free despite constant fear of death. Joe gave Duffers the idea when the director duo was locking the final moments of
Stranger Things. Joe apparently suggested of using the original version of
Heroes, which matched the Netflix show's vibe given how its previous seasons featured Peter Gabriel's cover.
Duffer Brothers reveal why they agreed to Joe Keery's suggestion
"It was actually Joe Keery who suggested that we do the Bowie version," Ross Duffer said. "Once Joe said that, we immediately knew that was the right song to end the show on because it is, in some ways, an anthem for Stranger Things. To use the original Bowie version just felt fitting for the conclusion," he added. The animated end credits show scenes of Hawkins flying around on pieces of paper, compiled into a worn binder with
Stranger Things Players Manual: Fantasy Role Playing Game written on the cover. The closing of the binder acts as an emotional goodbye to
Stranger Things that aired for almost a decade.
