Akshaye has received a lot of praise for playing a ruthless, powerful and brutal gangster, while also being soft at heart when it is about his family and core gang members. His character becomes instrumental in pushing the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai as the arms used by terrorists are shown to be supplied by his gang. Ranveer Singh as spy agent Hamza Ali Mazari joins him undercover to dig out information and ultimately become the reason for his encounter in the hands of SP Chaudhary Aslam played by Sanjay Dutt.
