The description of the film on the IFFR website reads, “From her journey through high school and college, then out into the wider world, Ramya’s dream of finding the perfect guy is obstructed by societal mores, strict parents, unrequited love and the untrammelled chaos of her own mind, in Varsha Bharath’s naughty and affecting comedy.”A few months earlier, filmmaker Vetri Maaran declared that the film Bad Girl will be his last production venture produced by his company, Grass Root Film Company. The decision comes as the filmmaker spoke about facing challenges in film production, including the financial strain of borrowing money to make films. "We are closing the production company. Bad Girl will be our last production venture," he stated, talking the pressures he has encountered as a producer.Ahead of the release, the film stirred a debate because the protagonist was from a Brahmin home, and several called out the makers as the lead character’s identity is portrayed in an 'unacceptable' way.
