Mrs Deshpande Composer Tapas Relia On Working With Madhuri Dixit: There's Always Added Pressure | Exclusive

Music composer Tapas Relia, whose recently worked in Madhuri Dixit starrer series Mrs Deshpande, released on 19th December on Disney+ Hotstar, directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, has been making headlines for

his work. Tapas has also worked in iconic films like Hanuman, Lakshmi, City of Dreams, Mod, Dhanak, and background scores for Ferrari Ki Sawaari, Rudra: The Edge of Darkness, and The Hunt – The Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case, among others. He now composed the title track and the background score for Mrs Deshpande.

Tapas Relia Exclusive Interview

In an exclusive conversation with Zoom, Relia opened up on his experience of working with legendary actress Madhuri Dixit. He said, "Working on Mrs. Deshpande has been an extremely smooth experience because I have already worked on a few projects with Nagesh. I have worked with these people before, it was a familiar team, there was a sense of familiarity and comfort and the equation that Nagesh and I have is very friendly, he understands my space, I understand his requirements, so overall it was quite a smooth experience."Further, he added, "Of course, the pressure is always there to deliver, the pressure is always there considering this has Madhuri Dixit and as there is, it is a big ticket event, it is, the stakes are high, so the pressure is there but having a familiar team always eases that pressure. Collaborating with Nagesh sir has always been a very pleasant experience because now obviously we have worked on so many projects together, it's an extremely friendly atmosphere we work in. For the first episode where we are creating themes and experimenting with various sound palettes, he understands my space, I understand his requirements, so it's an extremely respectful, friendly, light-hearted atmosphere that we work in." On working with Dixit, the composer shared, "Collaborating with Madhuri Dixit obviously is a different ball game altogether, I mean, not that she would be there while I'm scoring for this series, she was obviously there in spirits, you cannot forget that there is Madhuri Dixit in this show, so there is always a constant reminder, there is always this constant pressure."

Tapas Relia Lists His Favourite Movies

"Directors that I'd like to work with, I don't have a list but I do have a list of favorite films that really gave me those aspirations of working on, like you know Rockstar, Rang De Basanti, Swades, these are genre defining, path-breaking, trend-setting films, they come once in a while and they break the narrative of what commercial cinema is all about, and I'd love to work on such films and such people and such a team that believe in the craft and not the outcome, so yes, there goes a list of my favorite films, Relia concluded. Tapas began his career composing and arranging music for corporate and radio advertising. He went on to compose hundreds of ads and brand campaigns for major clients, including the Amaron Batteries campaign, Domino’s Pizza – Pizza Aaye Free, the Hero Honda (2010) campaign, the IPL Mumbai Indians anthem, and numerous TV promo campaigns for shows such as Mahabharata (2013), Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 3, Bigg Boss, and MasterChef India.
