With
Superman showing such a strong opening for the DC Universe, fans are speculating a lot about the rest of the iconic DC Trinity. With a new cinematic universe being birthed, audiences are eager to know when Batman and Wonder Woman will finally join the franchise. While DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn repeatedly has said that both heroes are a part of his long-term plan, neither characters has been cast yet. However, rumours are aplenty.Over the past few days, reports claimed that actors were already auditioning for both Batman and Wonder Woman, with suggestions that the two could even appear in the Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. Gunn, however, was quick to shut that down.
Responding to a fan on Threads, Gunn categorically dismissed the speculation, writing, “All these rumors of Batman and Wonder Woman auditions are false.” He also denied that DC Studios was gearing up for another major casting reveal anytime soon. Clarifying the situation further, Gunn explained, “The big news was Brainiac. Most other sizable roles are characters we’ve already met. Smaller roles are being [cast] now.”According to him, the rumors may have stemmed from partial information being wildly misinterpreted online. “We are currently casting a female character in MoT. My only guess is scoopers are taking a stab at guessing that’s WW,” Gunn added.
Fans were quick to speculate about who this mystery character could be, with names like Starfire, Big Barda, and Jenny Sparks doing the rounds - each of whom connects to future
DCU storylines.Despite Gunn’s firm denials, casting chatter refuses to die down. Batman, in particular, has inspired a long list of fan-favourite picks, ranging from People’s Sexiest Man Alive Jonathan Bailey to Brandon Sklenar, and even Smallville alum Tom Welling. On the Wonder Woman front, Alexandra Daddario continues to be a popular choice, while Melissa Barrera has also emerged as a strong contender among fans.
