History of Nainital
Nainital has been a part of the Kumaon region. In the 10th century, Kumaon got divided into several small princely states following the decline of the Katyuri Dynasty. The region came under British rule in the early 19th century. In 1841, a town was founded comprising of the areas surrounding Naini Lake, which was later renamed Nainital.
