Ready to have your mind blown with facts about outer space.
The size and scope of the universe play a role in the complexity of learning everything about
it. However, scientists are constantly discovering new things about this final frontier.
Below we give you six facts that you probably didn't know about the outer space.
You will asphyxiate in 15 seconds without a spacesuit
Without a spacesuit, a person can survive mere seconds before asphyxiating. Since there is no pressure in space, the air in your lungs expands and tears through the tissue. Due to the environment, your body would use up the entire oxygen in your blood in 15 seconds.
Its rains diamonds on Saturn and Jupiter
The lightning storms turn methane into carbon or soot, which while falling turns into graphite and then into diamond, making it rain diamonds. The largest diamond is approximately one centimetre in diameter.
A footprint on the moon can last almost 100 million years
The rocks on the moon erode at a rate of 0.04 inches in every 1 million years. This would mean that the footprint of astronauts from the 1969 Apollo mission could be there for somewhere between 10 to 100 million years.
Silence rules the space
If you are in space, no one can hear your scream. Even though there are some vibrations and sound waves, they are undetectable by humans. Essentially, space is a vacuum and, therefore, really quiet.
There is an estimate of a septillion stars in the universe
The universe goes beyond the Milky Way. In fact, no one knows how big is the universe, which makes it hard to estimate how many stars are there. However, scientists believe that there are around a septillion stars. This number is more than huge, especially if you compare it to grains of sand on Earth, which is seven quintillions, five hundred quadrillions.
The Milky Way galaxy has tens and thousands of black holes
A study has revealed that the centre of the Milky Way galaxy contains tens and thousands of black holes. While black holes are hard to detect as light can't escape from them, scientists pair it with a star that causes an interaction, which makes it easy to find using an X-ray.
