Started his innings with a six, Sooryavanshi hit the century with a strike rate of over 250
In recent years, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has transformed
into a batters' paradise, characterised by flat decks and shorter boundaries, making scoring runs a relatively easy task. However, batters do not score a century every day, and yet in 2025, a player who is still not an adult hit professional international bowlers right, left and centre to score a century. By doing so, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became the youngest T20 centurion in the world.
On this day in 2025, Sooryavanshi marked his arrival in style with 101 runs off 38 balls.
Started with six, 100 with a six
A 14-year-old last year, Sooryavanshi started his innings with a six off a delivery from Md Siraj, and from that moment on, it was an absolute carnage on the crease. Be it Ishant, Washington or Rashid Khan, none of the big names in cricket mattered on the night, as he scored 51 runs in 16 deliveries. In fact, Ishant Sharma was the bowler who faced the maximum wrath of Sooryavanshi’s willow, having conceded 26 runs in a single over.
Vaibhav’s fearless approach, bat speed, picking the length early, and transferring the energy behind the ball was the recipe behind a fabulous innings.

Finally, in the 11th over of the game, the moment arrived as the youngster sent a maximum over the mid-wicket off a Rashid Khan delivery. Vaibhav completed his century in 38 balls, marking the second-fastest IPL century after Chris Gayle. His innings included seven fours and 11 sixes that helped the Rajasthan Royals win the game by five consecutive victories.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said he had a clear plan against the bowler.
After his previous dismissal, he noticed comments that affected him personally, though he usually ignores such noise.
He added that it’s best to let the bat do the talking. pic.twitter.com/pNXpSiLyus
After a game, the youngster spoke about his mentality by stating, “It is a very good feeling. It's my first hundred in the IPL, and it's my third innings. The result has shown after the practice before the tournament. I just see the ball and play. There is no fear. I don't think much, I just focus on playing. It has been a dream to get a 100 in the IPL, and today it materialised.”
More than an IPL player

There is no doubt that the IPL has come under criticism for being biased toward batters who make it easy for them to score against the best bowlers. However, Vaibhav has proved his batting prowess outside the T20 domestic tournament. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025 versus Arunachal Pradesh, he became the youngest to score a List A century. He even became the fastest Indian U19 player to score a century last year, during India's U19 Test against Australia. Sooryavanshi also scored a century in the U19 Asia Cup 2025 and made another record-breaking knock vs England in the U19 World Cup final 2026.
