Speculation surrounding JanaNayagan intensified over the weekend after ticket-booking platforms appeared to quietly reveal a possible release date for the much-awaited film.
While the makers haven’t confirmed the release date, updates spotted on booking apps have convinced many that Vijay’s last film is coming in June. The hype is expected as Vijay made his blockbuster political debut with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and was sworn in as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on May 10.
Social media was flooded with screenshots after platforms like BookMyShow and District by Zomato updated their calendars to reflect the release date and window for the film.
According to the District, Jana Nayagan's scheduled release date has been updated to June 19. Meanwhile, BookMyShow has revised their calendar to show the film release in June.
The suggested June 19 release has generated additional excitement because it falls just days before Vijay’s 52nd birthday on June 22.
However, despite the online frenzy, KVN Productions, the production house, has stopped short of confirming the date, reported The Indian Express.
A source associated with KVN Productions said the film’s release depends entirely on clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the report added.
“We are yet to receive the certificate, but we are looking at releasing the film during that window. However, nothing has been finalised yet, and more clarity will emerge once the certification process of Jana Nayagan is completed. As of now, the focus is only on that," the source was quoted as saying.
Producer Venkat K. Narayana also told reporters during a temple visit that the makers are still awaiting the censor certificate and expect approval soon.
“But as I said, we are waiting for the certificate to come. I am sure that they’re going to give it anytime soon. We’ll release Jana Nayaganat the earliest," he said.
