Anupam Kher praises a stranger who taught him a ‘lesson’ mid air: ‘How quickly we judge’

It was another routine flight for Anupam Kher from Goa to Mumbai until he came across a man named David. Their encounter taught the veteran actor a very valuable lesson in life: Not to judge a book by its cover. Taking to X (formerly twitter), Kher narrated the entire incident and shared, “Life is full of lessons.”

The Bollywood actor posted a picture with David from inside the flight. Both were seen beaming with smile. In his post, Kher shared that people are often quick to form opinions about someone without knowing their backstory. Same happened with the actro who was quick to judge David based on his appearance.

“Last week, on a flight from Goa to Mumbai, I learned one. In the picture is David. When David boarded the flight, many people looked at him because he was overweight. He came and sat across the aisle from me,” Kher said.

“In the middle of the flight, he opened his bag, took out a huge collection of chocolates and sweets, and then walked towards the washroom.”

As Kher saw him carry so many chocolates with him, he quickly judged that David probably eating those. He exchanged glances with a passenger next to him and said, “‘He shouldn’t eat so much sweets and chocolates!’ This was said out of concern! The gentleman smiled and replied, ‘Well, that’s probably why he looks the way he does.’”

But what happened next proved that judging someone by their appearance can be deceptive. Instead of having those chocolates all by himself, David distributed them among the cabin crew.

Kher admitted, “I was surprised. So I told him, ‘I must confess, I thought you were going to eat all those chocolates yourself, and that’s why you were overweight.’”

David told Kher that he has a medical condition that led him to gain weight. He further shared why he decided to hand out chocolates to the crew, saying, “I used to work with airlines, and I know what cabin crew members go through every day. So I like to bring them something sweet whenever I travel.”

Kher ended his post by appreciating David's kind gesture. He wrote, “What an outstanding human being. And what a lesson for me. How quickly we judge people. How easily we create stories about them without knowing anything about their lives. Thank you, David, for reminding me that kindness is often hidden behind appearances, and that the best people are sometimes the ones we understand the least. I asked him for a pic! He obliged!
