Conan O'Brien to return as Oscars host for third consecutive year in 2027

Turns out the Oscars host in 2027 is, after all, not going to be "Waymo in a tux." Comedian and television host Conan O'Brien is set to return as host of the 99th Academy Awards, marking his third consecutive stint fronting Hollywood’s biggest night.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the news, also confirming the return of executive producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan for the 2027 ceremony.

O’Brien, who hosted the last two editions of the Oscars to largely positive reception, had joked during this year’s opening monologue that he was "honoured to be the last human host of the Academy Awards," before quipping that the next ceremony would instead be hosted by a self-driving car "in a tux."

Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy president Lynette Howell Taylor praised O’Brien and the producing team for delivering "captivating, entertaining and heartfelt" broadcasts over the past two years. Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich also welcomed O’Brien’s return, calling his comedic style a key part of making the Oscars one of the entertainment industry’s biggest annual events.

The 99th Academy Awards will air live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre on March 14, 2027. The ceremony will be among the final Oscars broadcasts from the Hollywood venue and on traditional television before the awards move to downtown Los Angeles and

for the 101st edition.
