Oscars 2026: 'Homebound' shortlisted for best International film at 98th Academy Awards

Director Neeraj Ghaywan's film, Homebound, featuring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor, has been shortlisted for the 98th Academy Awards in the Best International Film category.

Homebound is the only Indian film to make it to the list, competing alongside 15 other international films for a nomination.

Some of the other shortlisted films include France's It Was Just an Accident, Taiwan's Left-Handed Girl,

Argentina's Belen, South Korea's No Other Choice, Brazil's The Secret Agent and Germany's Sound of Falling.

The shortlist also features Iraq's The President's Cake, Japan's Kokuho, Jordan's All That's Left of You, Norway's Sentimental Value, Palestine's Palestine 36, Spain's Sirat, Switzerland's Late Shift, and Tunisia's The Voice of Hind Rajab.

Production houseDharma Movies has shared the film's poster on Instagram with the caption, "We're deeply grateful for the extraordinary love and support we’ve received from around the world."

Producer Karan Johar also penned an emotional note as Homebound makes it to the Oscars. He wrote, "I am not sure I can articulate how proud, elated and over the moon I am with the journey of HOMEBOUND… all of us at Dharma Movies are privileged to have this proud and important film in our filmography."

He further thanked the director for turning many of their dreams into reality. "Thank you Neeraj Ghaywan for making so many dreams of ours come true… from Cannes to being on the Oscar shortlist this has been such an overwhelming journey! Love to the entire cast and crew and teams of this special special film!"

Karan also stated that the film is currently available to stream on Netflix.

98th Oscar Awards

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the list for the 98th Academy Awards.

The organisation has released entries for 12 different award categories, which include Live Action Short Film, Animated Short Film, Casting, Documentary Feature and Short Film, International Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Cinematography, Original Score, Original Song, Sound, and Visual Effects.

The official list of Oscar nominees will be announced on January 22, 2026, and the winners will be revealed on March 15, 2026.
