What is the story about?
The makers of Chiranjeevi's upcoming film Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu have secured a court order to restrict ratings and reviews on ticketing platforms such as Book My Ticket.
This order is the first in the Telugu film industry, setting a precedent for fair digital practices and ethical audience engagement, establishing a precedent for fair digital practices and ethical audience involvement.
The action is intended to discourage organised attempts to manipulate public opinion through artificial reviews, bots, and agenda-driven campaigns that directly hurt filmmakers, producers and the creative ecosystem.
BlockBigg and AiPlex, in collaboration with the Bharat Digital Media Federation, have spearheaded this initiative, which reinforces the industry's commitment to openness, justice, and digital accountability.
In a post on X, trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared: “BIG DEVELOPMENT – TELUGU FILM INDUSTRY TAKES A GIANT INITIATIVE... In a historic and unprecedented move, the #Telugu film industry [#TFI] has taken a decisive step to safeguard cinema from digital manipulation and orchestrated online abuse.”
“To prevent coordinated negative down-ranking and malicious review attacks, ratings and reviews on ticketing platforms have been legally restricted for the #Chiranjeevi - #Venkatesh - #Nayanthara starrer #ManaShankaraVaraPrasadGaru, following court orders,” he added.
Director Hemanth Madhukar welcomed the initiative, stating that Telugu filmmakers have been at the receiving end of organised online attacks for years. "Telugu films have suffered due to unknown individuals from various locations posting extremely poor ratings and one-word negative comments. Internet robots or bots flood platforms with minuscule ratings on the first day, which can influence audience perception even before genuine reviews emerge,” he was quoted as saying by Deccan Chronicle.
The action-comedy film Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, directed by Anil Ravipudi, features Chiranjeevi, Nayanthara, and Venkatesh in key roles. The Telugu film released in theatres on Monday, January 12.
