Sharing the announcement, Rajamouli posted a film poster with the caption, "April 7th, 2027… #VARANASI."

The film’s title was officially unveiled in November 2025 at a large-scale event in Hyderabad attended by around 50,000 fans. Rajamouli had also released a teaser that offered a glimpse into a narrative spanning multiple locations and time periods, including Antarctica, Varanasi, Kenya, 512 CE, 2027 CE and the 'Threthayuga.'
In the film, Chopra Jonas plays Mandakini, while Prithviraj Sukumaran features as the antagonist Kumbha. Varanasi will have music composed by MM Keeravani, who won an Oscar for Rajamouli’s RRR. The film is produced by Sri Durga Arts and Showing Business.
