What is the story about?
After a stellar opening weekend at the box office, Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor's Peddi witnessed the expected weekday slowdown on its first Monday. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the Buchi Babu Sana directorial collected ₹12.05 crore net in India on Day 5, taking its total domestic net collection to ₹169.7 crore.
The sports action drama had minted ₹32.15 crore on Sunday, making Monday's earnings a noticeable drop from its weekend high. However, despite the decline,Peddi continues to enjoy a strong theatrical run and remains one of the top-performing films currently in Indian cinemas.
With a domestic net collection of ₹169.70 crore, Peddi has also performed strongly overseas, pushing its worldwide gross collection to an impressive ₹248.92 crore.
Adding to the film's momentum, production house Vriddhi Cinemas recently claimed on X that Peddi has sold over 5.3 million tickets across BookMyShow and District, underlining its massive appeal among moviegoers and sustained demand at the ticket windows.
Headlined by Ram Charan, Janhvi Kapoor and Shivarajkumar, Peddi continues to draw audiences despite fresh competition from recent releases such as Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, Obsession and Bandar.
Meanwhile, Peddihas also found itself at the centre of a controversy. Several viewers accused the film of objectifying Janhvi Kapoor and failing to do justice to her role.
Responding to the backlash, director Buchi Babu Sana issued a detailed statement on X. The filmmaker clarified the team's perspective and revealed that changes would be made to the concerned portions of the film.
He wrote, "As a filmmaker, I believe cinema should entertain, inspire and connect with audiences. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected. We have heard the feedback regarding certain scenes in Peddi and have taken it seriously."
"I have always had immense respect for women, both on and off screen, and it was never our intention to objectify or disrespect any female character. If any part of the film has been perceived that way, we respect those sentiments, understand the concerns being raised, and sincerely apologise.
After reviewing the feedback, we have decided to make changes to the concerned portions. Cinema grows through its connection with audiences, and as storytellers, we have a responsibility to be mindful of evolving perspectives and sensitivities," the filmmaker added.
Released on June 4, Peddi also features Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu and Boman Irani in important roles.
