What is the story about?
Oscar-winning composer A R Rahman on Sunday, June 7, delivered his first-ever live performance at the Attari border in Punjab, paying tribute to Border Security Force (BSF) personnel during a special musical event held alongside the Beating Retreat ceremony.
Titled "Jai Ho — A Musical Salute to the Bravehearts", the programme took place at the Joint Check Post (JCP) Stadium and drew thousands of visitors. The event was organised ahead of the release of filmmaker Imtiaz Ali's upcoming film Main Vaapas Aaunga, which features music composed by Rahman.
Rahman Opens Performance With Patriotic and Film Songs
Rahman began the evening with his composition Chanda Suraj Lakhon Taare before presenting songs from Main Vaapas Aaunga.
The film's track Maskara was performed by singers Nilanjana Ghosh and actor Vedang Raina, who plays a young man from pre-Partition India in the movie. Another song, Ishq Mastana, was presented by Mohit Chauhan along with singers Pooja Tiwari and Nargis.
The event concluded with Rahman's iconic patriotic number Maa Tujhe Salaam, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, Rahman, Vedang Raina, and the film's producers Ananya Birla of Birla Studios and Mohit Choudhary of Window Seat Films were present at the event.
The team dedicated the music album of Main Vaapas Aaunga to the courage and sacrifice of India's armed forces personnel.
In a statement, Ali described the performance as "an ode to the national spirit" and to the BSF, the Indian Army, and the sense of unity that binds people together.
He said the film originates from the story of borders created during the Partition of 1947 and carries a message of love and human connection despite the pain and separation caused by that period in history.
