What is the story about?
Actor Bobby Deol is back on the big screen in a new, unconventional and intense role in Bandar. Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the upcoming thriller will centre on Sameer Mehra (Deol), a struggling star whose world falls apart after a serious allegation. It will explore the themes of fame, downfall and public scrutiny.
The film's teaser was released by the makers on Thursday, May 7. It begins with a retro-style background score as Sameer walks onto a stage in a shimmery golden outfit. He held a guitar and began singing a quirky, peppy song, “Come on, baby! Dil kisko degi?” leaving young women swooning over him and his charisma.
The teaser then cuts to a woman, played by Sapna Pabbi, who asks him, “Tum dating app par kyun ho? Tumhe to koi bhi mil sakti hai ( Why are you on a dating app? You can get any girl you want)?” He laughs it off and then adds that he considers himself a “bahut bura aur ghatiya kisam ka aadmi (a terrible and creepy man).”
Next, he was seen on a date with Saba Azad’s character, who sarcastically asks him if he was expecting someone younger than her. He told her that he swiped right on the dating app just by looking at her pictures.
The film takes a turn when he is accused of sexual assault, but he emphasises that he is innocent and the girl was trying to frame him. The teaser shows brief scenes of his arrest, public humiliation and time spent inside a police station and jail. The one-minute 29-second video ended with a haunting shot of Sameer smiling, missing a tooth, hinting at the emotional and physical trauma the character suffers.
Sanya Malhotra also appears in the film as Sameer’s supportive sister, who decides to stand beside him during his difficult journey.
Bandar, written by Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee, is reportedly based on a real-life incident. The film is being produced by Nikhil Dwivedi, Shivie Pandit and Gaurie Pandit under Saffrom Magicworks. Besides the lead cast, the film also features Indrajith Sukumaran, Jitendra Joshi, Raj B. Shetty, Ankush Gedam, Riddhi Sen, and Nagesh Bhonsle.
