What is the story about?
The much-awaited Telugu film Akhanda 2, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, has been pulled from release today, December 5, leaving fans disappointed.
The production house 14 Reels Plus said the film "will not be releasing as scheduled due to unavoidable circumstances," and apologised to fans, calling it a "painful moment." The announcement comes just hours before the paid premiere shows are about to start.
"With a heavy heart, we regret to inform you that Akhanda 2 will not be released as scheduled due to unavoidable circumstances. This is a painful moment for us, and we truly understand the disappointment it brings to every fan and movie lover awaiting the film," the production house wrote on X.
It further added, "We are working tirelessly to resolve the matter at the earliest. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused. Your support means the world to us. We promise to share a positive update very soon."
The sudden delay comes amid a legal dispute with Eros International Media Limited. On Thursday, December 4, the Madras High Court issued an order preventing the film's release.
Eros holds a long-standing arbitral award against 14 Reels, granting them a money decree of around ₹28 crore.

In 2019, a court directed 14 Reels Entertainment to pay Eros International over a financial and rights-related dispute concerning the film Dookudu. The production house tried to challenge this in court, but in 2020, the Madras High Court rejected their petition, and in 2021, the Supreme Court dismissed their appeal.
In August 2025, when Eros found out that 14 Reels was making Akhanda 2 under a new company name, 14 Reels Plus LLP. Eros argued in court that this new company was still controlled by the same people from 14 Reels and that this was a way to avoid paying the earlier dues.
A Division Bench comprising Justice SM Subramaniam and Justice C. Kumarappan ruled that Akhanda 2 cannot be released, distributed, or commercially exploited unless the court orders otherwise.
Helmed by Boyapati Srinu, Akhanda 2: Thaandavam is the sequel to the 2021 blockbuster Akhanda. The film also stars Samyuktha, Aadhi Pinishetty, and Harshaali Malhotra in key roles. The makers are yet to announce the new release date.
