What is the story about?
Fans were in shock when footage from Jana Nayagan, the much-awaited film starring Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister Vijay, surfaced online before its official release. In recent turn of events, six people have been arrested for allegedly sharing and distributing the leaked clips.
As reported by India Today, the arrests were made by the Cyber Crime Wing as part of an ongoing investigation into the unauthorised circulation of footage from the film, which has been promoted as Vijay's last project before his full-time entry into politics.
According to authorities, the accused allegedly shared the leaked videos on social media platforms and messaging apps. Authorities said the action is part of a wider crackdown on online piracy and the illegal distribution of copyrighted content.
Investigators have seized the electronic devices from the accused and are examining them to figure out how the footage was obtained and then shared online. At the same time, officials are also on the hunt for the initial source of the leak and anyone else involved in uploading, forwarding or distributing the clips.
Meanwhile, the Cyber Crime Wing has launched an operation to look into the whole piracy network. Experts in digital forensics are diving into social media, communication records and online accounts to find all those tied to the leak. Authorities have also issued a warning that sharing copyrighted content without permission is a punishable offence under the law. They urged people to stop spreading the leaked content and mentioned there might be more arrests as they dig deeper.
Vijay’s Jaya Nayagan is counted amongst one of the most anticipated films of this year. But its release has been delayed because of a certification dispute with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Earlier, there were speculations that the film might release on the lead actor’s birthday on June 22, but as of now, no official release date has been announced.
Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, the political action thriller, which is a remake of the Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari, will star Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani.
