What is the story about?
The trailer of Diljit Dosanjh, Vedang Raina and Sharvari starrer Main Vaapas Aaunga is out. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film follows a grandson’s journey to help his grandfather confront long-buried memories of love and loss from the Partition era.
The makers released the official trailer for the romantic drama on Tuesday. The trailer opens with a senior citizen, played by Naseeruddin Shah, who carries the weight of memories that have haunted him for the past 78 years. His life takes a turn when his grandson, played by Diljit Dosanjh, steps in as his emotional support in the present timeline. Listening to his grandfather's lingering regrets, Diljit pledges to help him find closure.
The trailer shares glimpses of a pre-Partition era, where the younger versions of the characters are introduced. Vedang Raina plays Keenu, the younger version of Naseeruddin Shah and Sharvari is seen as Jiya, his love interest. Their tender world is soon disrupted as the chaos of the 1947 Partition takes over.
The lush landscapes turn into scenes of migration, crowded trains and heritage homes left behind. In the present day, Diljit’s character embarks on an emotional journey to retrace his grandfather’s roots and uncover the story of love, loss, and identity left behind.
The film is also notable for bringing Ali back together with lyricist Irshad Kamil and composer AR Rahman. This trio’s past collaborations include Highway, Tamasha and 2024’s biographical drama Amar Singh Chamkila.
Main Vaapas Aaunga is produced by Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment, along with Mohit Choudhary and Shibasish Sarkar of Window Seat Films. It is set for worldwide release in cinemas on June 12, 2026.
