What is the story about?
Tamil blockbuster Dude, directed by debutant Keerthiswaran and starring Pradeep Ranganathan and Mamitha Baiju, is now set for its OTT premiere. The movie will be available in several languages on Netflix starting November 14.
The movie will now be available in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, expanding its demographic beyond the Tamil-speaking audience.
The movie created ripples at the box office when it was released in theatres on October 17 (to align with Diwali week), reportedly surpassing ₹100 crore during its extended run. Fans who either missed it on the big screen or are excitedly awaiting a re-watch can now watch it on Netflix.
Netflix’s official social media announcement playfully promoted the film with the tagline: “One DUDE, one thousand problems, no solutions.”
Sharing the OTT release news, Netflix India South wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Watch Dude on Netflix, out 14 November in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.”
The story of Dude centres on Agan and Kural, two cousins who own an event organising business. Despite their apparent success, their lives are plagued by social constraints, familial expectations, and a psychological anxiety that combines youthful aspirations, interpersonal relationships, and contemporary emotional challenges.
Veterans like R Sarathkumar and Rohini Molleti constitute the ensemble cast, and Nikketh Bommi's photography and Sai Abhyankar's music are part of the technical team.
Dude marks debutant director Keerthiswaran’s remarkable entry into mainstream cinema while also evolving into Mythri Movie Makers’ second Tamil production. Mythri officially released it in March under the tentative title PR 04, according to the Economic Times.
Dude proved to be unbeatable at the box office and became Pradeep Ranganathan's third film to earn ₹100 crore. It solidified his position as one of Tamil cinema's most lucrative young actors after the enormous success of Love Today and Good Night.
The film generated around ₹72.2 crore in India and ₹113.25 crore globally, according to Sacnilk. In the meantime, Pradeep Ranganathan's most recent film, Dragon, was also a huge blockbuster.
All eyes are on whether the movie will replicate its theatrical charm on Netflix, as viewers anxiously await its release. Dude is well-positioned to have a second life on the streaming platform because of its unique blend of comedy, drama, and modern interpersonal dynamics.
