What is the story about?
The release of Akshay Kumar’s upcoming horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla has been postponed by a month. The film, earlier slated to release on April 2, 2026, will now arrive in theatres on May 15, 2026.
Bhoot Bangla’s new release date
The update was shared by trade analyst Taran Adarsh on X.
In his post, Adarsh wrote that Akshay Kumar and director Priyadarshan were reuniting once again for the film, adding that Bhooth Bangla would release in cinemas on May 15 next year. He also confirmed that the film is produced by Akshay Kumar, Shobha Kapoor and Ektaa R Kapoor, and co-produced by Faara Sheikh and Vedant Vikaas Baali.
No reason was given for the change in the release schedule.
Akshay Kumar and Tabu reunite after 25 years
Bhooth Bangla brings together Akshay Kumar and Tabu after a gap of about 25 years. The two previously worked together on films such as Hera Pheri and Tu Chor Main Sipahi.
Their return as a screen pair, this time under Priyadarshan’s direction, has been one of the film’s main talking points since the project was announced. The genre itself - horror mixed with comedy - has also seen renewed interest in recent years, adding to expectations around the film.
Balaji Motion Pictures acknowledged the new date with a brief social media post, writing, “Bangle se ek khabar aayi hai!” and adding that “The doors open on 15th May 2026.”
The production team also recently shared a still from the Jaipur set, showing Akshay Kumar welcoming Tabu on set. The caption noted that the trio - Akshay, Tabu and Priyadarshan - were working together again after 25 years.
Cast, producers and creative team
The film is produced by Balaji Telefilms in association with Akshay Kumar’s Cape of Good Films. Shobha Kapoor and Ektaa R Kapoor are leading the production, with Faara Sheikh and Vedant Baali as co-producers.
The story is credited to Akash A Kaushik. The screenplay has been written by Rohan Shankar, Abilash Nair and Priyadarshan, with dialogues by Rohan Shankar.
The cast also includes the late actorAsrani. Speaking earlier, Priyadarshan had said that Asrani featured in two of his last films, Bhooth Bangla and Haiwaan, and that they spent several months working closely during that period.
For now, the focus remains on the confirmed release date. Further promotional details are expected closer to the film’s theatrical launch.
