Set against the glamorous backdrop of Los Angeles, the upcoming series explores the duality of fame and failure, ambition and identity. Veteran actor Ben Kingsley will also reprise his beloved MCU role as Trevor Slattery.
In Marvel Comics, Wonder Man is portrayed as a man caught between his confidence as a superhero and his self-doubt. “Hollywood actor Simon Williams is thrust into the world of superheroes as he gets powers of his own, and becomes the new superhero Wonder Man,” IMDB wrote, describing the film.
A new teaser trailer for Wonder Man was also released recently, offering a glimpse of Abdul-Mateen's character as Simon Williams.
This isn't the first time Abdul-Mateen has played a superhero role. Before this, he played a villain in DC's Aquaman movies and an all-powerful being in HBO's Watchmen series. Speaking with ABC News recently, he mentioned how Wonder Man is more grounded than those releases.
“In the past, I was playing characters who were in an environment where the entire world was at stake. This is about one guy in his world, and it feels like the stakes of the entire world are at play -- that's what it feels like when you're after something really important to you,” he said during New York Comic Con.
The upcoming Wonder Man series will focus on Simon Williams's journey from a villain to a hero, exploring his transformation. It is produced under the banner of Marvel Television, Onyx Collective, and Family Owned, with Bonnie Munoz serving as producer.
