Netflix partnered with the Government of India to highlight eight Indian startups, featuring their work in social innovation in eight short animated films.
The streaming giant's Netflix Fund for Creative Equity collaborated with the office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) and the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting to highlight their work through Inspiring Innovators – Naye Bharat Ki Nayi Pehchaaan
.The films were created by students from universities across the country, including the National
Institute of Design, Chitkara University, and the Satyajit Ray Institute of Film and Television.
The initiative trained 26 students with many from tier-2 cities, providing them with hands-on creative experience and mentorship from industry experts at Graphiti Studios and NID Ahmedabad. The culmination event also included an original anthem performed by students from the Shankar Mahadevan Academy.
Voiceovers were recorded by participants from Netflix’s Voicebox initiative, in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC).
Speaking at the event, Dr L Murugan, Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting, said the programme highlights how creativity can be applied in service of society and praised Netflix’s role in bringing Indian stories to global audiences.
“Rooted in India’s rich tradition of storytelling, our creators today have the opportunity to take Indian stories to global audiences, supported by the government’s efforts to strengthen intellectual property frameworks and enable a future-ready creative ecosystem," Murugan said.
Professor Ajay Kumar Sood, PSA to the Government of India, added that the initiative reflects a holistic approach to building India’s innovation ecosystem, connecting policy intent with talent development and real-world application. He said, "Inspiring Innovators was designed to highlight innovation with social relevance while also strengthening skills and knowledge pathways."
Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, emphasised the role of storytelling in skilling India’s next generation of creators, noting that the initiative demonstrates how social innovators are shaping meaningful content for wider audiences.
Netflix India’s Mahima Kaul said the collaboration "brings together government, industry, and young creators to showcase ideas shaping India’s innovation ecosystem in a meaningful and inclusive way."
All eight films are now available for viewing on Netflix India’s YouTube channel, offering a glimpse into how Indian start-ups are driving socially relevant innovation.
