Security has been stepped up at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, where veteran actor Dharmendra is currently undergoing treatment. The 89-year-old was admitted over a week ago after he complained of breathlessness.
After reports of his death surfaced, the actor’s wife and veteran actor Hema Malini and daughter Esha Deol denied the reports.
Esha Deol took to Instagram on Tuesday (Nov 11) to clarify her father’s condition, writing, "The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news. My father is stable and recovering. We request everyone to give our family privacy. Thank you for the prayers for papa's speedy recovery." She also disabled comments on her post.
Hema Malini also called out the "false and disrespectful" reports. "What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and is recovering? This is being extremely disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give due respect to the family and its need for privacy," she wrote on X.
On Monday, the BJP MP had shared an earlier update, assuring fans that Dharmendra was under observation and being closely monitored. "I thank everyone for their concern about Dharam ji who is in hospital for observation. He is being continuously monitored and we are all with him. I request you all to pray for his welfare and speedy recovery," she had said.
Family members, including Sunny and Bobby Deol, as well as grandsons Karan and Rajveer Deol, were seen visiting the actor at the hospital. Several industry colleagues, including Shah Rukh Khan, Aryan, Salman Khan, Govinda, and Ameesha Patel, also paid him visits.
Dharmendra, one of Hindi cinema’s most beloved matinee idols, is best known for his roles in Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Dharam Veer, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, and Dream Girl. He was last seen in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya , alongside Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, and will next appear in Ikkis, featuring Agastya Nanda in the lead. The film is scheduled for release on December 25.
