The actor vowed not to stay silent if the campaigns continued, drawing a clear line between professional criticism and what he called deliberate attempts to damage his son’s image.
Suniel Shetty’s warning over attacks on Ahan Shetty
The comments come as Ahan prepares for the release of Border 2, scheduled for January 23, 2026.
Speaking to ETimes, Suniel Shetty said he had uncovered paid efforts to plant stories portraying Ahan as difficult to work with and surrounded by a large entourage.
According to him, the narratives were not random and were being pushed to create a negative perception ahead ofBorder 2.
“I will not let go. I will take you on the way you want me to take you on, because I am clean and honest and also fearless,” he said in the interview.
He added that if the personal targeting continued, he would consider calling a press conference to publicly identify those involved. The actor made it clear that criticism of work is acceptable, but personal attacks are not.
Suniel Shetty on Ahan’s post-Tadap phase and industry pressure
Suniel Shetty also spoke about the impact the last two years have had on his son. After Tadap failed commercially, Ahan largely stayed away from the public spotlight. The silence, he said, was difficult.
He recently became emotional at the launch of the Border 2 song ‘Jaate Hue Lamhon’ in Mumbai. He later explained that the moment Ahan placed a hand on his back during the event brought back memories of what his son had gone through since his debut.
Addressing the idea of privilege, he said the assumption that star kids automatically get work is misleading, adding that Ahan faced “a lot of turmoil” after his first film.
Suniel Shetty on Border 2, co-stars and online trolling
Suniel Shetty also thanked JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta for casting Ahan in Border 2, calling it significant given the original Border (1997) played a defining role in his own career.
He also defended co-star Varun Dhawan, who faced online criticism over his expressions in the song “Ghar Kab Aaoge.”
Suniel said the trolling was premature, pointing out that audiences had not yet seen the full film and the context of the character.
