Wingardium Leviosa: Harry Potter series officially coming to HBO in 2027

Get ready, Potterheads! The wait is almost over as HBO's highly anticipated Harry Potter series is targeting an early 2027 release. The upcoming series, which is still in production, is targeted for early 2027, though an exact premiere month has not yet been locked in.

In a recent conversation with Deadline, Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, has narrowed the release window for the Harry Potter series to early 2027. He indicated that while a specific month is not yet ready to be announced, the target is the first part of the year.

“Well, we’ve been saying 2027. I would say, to narrow it down to some extent, early 2027. And now you’re going to ask, does that mean January, February, March, April, that we’re not ready to say. I’ll say early 2027,” Bloys said.

The chairman first addressed a potential premiere date for the series during an interview with Deadline in September 2024, where he provided 'Late ’26-’27' window. “Writers are just getting started so it’s too soon to talk about airdate,” he added.

In that same interview, Bloys expressed strong confidence in the creative duo leading the project, stating, "Yes. With [writer] Francesca [Gardiner] and Mark, I feel very, very happy and excited about what they’ve got going."

The show is currently in production, with filming underway in the UK since the summer of 2025. The series boasts an impressive cast, including Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.

Other notable cast members include John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Tristan Harland as Fred Weasley, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Hagrid.

Produced by HBO in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television and Bronte Film and TV, the series is executive-produced byJK Rowling, David Heyman, Mark Mylod, Francesca Gardiner, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts with Hans Zimmer on board as composer. The upcoming TV series is being led by Francesca Gardiner as writer and Mark Mylod as director of multiple episodes.
