What is the story about?
The Corleone crime saga is set to return to bookstores with a new novel, as The Godfather universe expands once again decades after its last major literary entry.
Random House has acquired an authorised Godfather novel approved by the estate of Mario Puzo and written by bestselling author Adriana Trigiani. Titled Connie, the book is scheduled for a fall 2027 release and will focus on Connie Corleone, the family member portrayed by Talia Shire in the three Godfather films directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
According to Random House, this marks the third officially sanctioned
Godfather novel and the first in the series to be written by a woman. The story is also the first time the saga will be told from a woman’s point of view.
Trigiani said in a statement that Connie follows a woman trying to "forge her own way in a world that’s already decided who she is, what she’s about, and how she should be treated." She added that while figures like Don Vito Corleone and Michael Corleone were underestimated by others, "the same will be true for Connie Corleone."
The author, known for novels such as
The Shoemaker’s Wife, Lucia, Lucia, and The Queen of the Big Time, was reportedly approached by the Puzo estate after she wrote a Substack essay reflecting on how little was known about the women of the Corleone family.
Anthony Puzo, son of Mario Puzo and executor of the estate, said in a statement that Trigiani’s perspective on Connie’s life "blew us all away." He noted that discussions with the author included reflections on how women played central roles within both families, though often behind the scenes.
He also said that the character of Vito Corleone, as portrayed in the films by Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro, was based on his grandmother.
The Godfather novel series, which began with Mario Puzo’s 1969 bestseller The Godfather, has since expanded through multiple authorised sequels and prequels, including works by Mark Winegardner and Edward Falco. The franchise spans decades of storytelling around the fictional Corleone crime family.
The original novel was followed by The Sicilian (1984), The Godfather Returns (2004), The Godfather’s Revenge (2006), and The Family Corleone (2012), each expanding different timelines and characters within the saga.

The books have collectively contributed to a wider franchise that includes the acclaimed film trilogy directed by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Al Pacino as Michael Corleone, alongside Marlon Brando, Robert De Niro, Robert Duvall, and Diane Keaton. The films have earned over $400 million worldwide and received nine Academy Awards.
Connie will be the first addition to the literary saga in more than a decade and will continue the Corleone family story.
