What is the story about?
Comedian Samay Raina has announced a second season of his show 'India’s Got Latent' in his latest stand-up special, where he also spoke about the controversy surrounding the first season and the events that followed.
The special, released online on Tuesday (April 7) night, comes more than a year after a joke by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia sparked nationwide outrage and multiple FIRs against comedians associated with the episode.
In the special, Raina said he intends to bring the show back, adding that he enjoyed creating it and plans to return with a "wild" version, alongside a toned-down version for online audiences.
He also spoke about the fallout from the controversy, including the impact on those associated with the show. Raina recalled feeling distressed after seeing a video involving the family of Balraj Singh Ghai, owner of the venue where the show was filmed.
The comedian said he faced three FIRs and noted that he had not made any remarks in the episode in question. He added that he was questioned by Assam Police on whether he would apologise and eventually decided to do so.
Raina further addressed criticism directed at fellow comedian Apoorva Makhija, stating she was responding to a misogynistic comment.
He also commented on the editing of the controversial episode, saying that multiple remarks had been removed and only one line was retained. The over one-hour-long special also included remarks on media coverage, public reactions and criticism from public figures.
