What is the story about?
After more than six years in production and post-production, Mayasabha: The Hall of Illusion is finally set for a theatrical release.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed the date on X on Wednesday, announcing that the film will arrive in cinemas on January 30, 2026. The teaser has also been released.
Adarsh described the film as the second project by writer-director Rahi Anil Barve, best known forTumbbad. He said the film carries elements of mystery, magic, and psychological tension and features Jaaved Jaaferi in a role unlike his previous work.
Release and production details
Mayasabha is produced by Zirkon Films Pvt Ltd and presented by Pickle Entertainment, led by Sameer Dixit and Rishikesh Bhirangi. The producers are Girish Patel and Ankoor J Singh, with Shamrao Bhagwan Yadav, Chanda Yadav, Kewal Handa, and Manish Handa listed as co-producers.
The Indian theatrical release will be handled by Pickle Entertainment in association with UFO Moviez.
Apart from Jaaved Jaaferi, the cast includes Veena Jamkar, Deepak Damle, and Mohd. Samad. Ashish Ningurkar is credited as the film’s creative consultant.
Filming for the project began in 2018. Since then, the film has remained unreleased, with limited official updates until the teaser announcement this week.
What caused the delay
In a 2024 interview with MensXP, Rahi Anil Barve spoke about the long gap between production and release. He said the film turned out significantly longer than expected, running over three hours.
Barve also said the structure of the film contributed to the challenge. The story takes place largely in enclosed environments with a small set of characters. The narrative moves through different spaces inside what he described as an old theatre-like setting.
He called the script one of his strongest works but acknowledged that its length made it difficult to schedule and position for release.
Why the film stands out
Mayasabha is Barve’s first feature since Tumbbad and has been awaited largely because of his reputation for slow-burn, atmospheric storytelling.
The teaser does not reveal much of the plot. It focuses instead on mood, sound, and visual tone. But after years of uncertainty - the film now has a confirmed date.
