The first look of the highly anticipated film Batwara 1947 has finally been unveiled by the makers. After Gadar, Sunny Deol returns in the role of a saviour and protector in this period drama, which also stars his son, Karan Deol.
On Tuesday, Aamir Khan’s production house shared the official motion poster of the film, giving fans a peek into the film’s first look.

Later, Sunny Deol shared the motion poster on his Instagram handle with the same caption.
Preity Zinta is returning to the big screen after a long time. The film is going to mark her reunion with Sunny Deol after their 2018 film Bhaiji Superhit.
According to reports, the upcoming film was previously titled Lahore 1947, but producer Aamir Khan was keen to change the original title. As per Hungama Today reports, the rights to the title Batwara were held by the family of late producer Salim Akhtar.
The report revealed that Aamir Khan met the family and secured the rights before the title change was finalised.

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, Batwara 1947 The film is based on Asghar Wajahat's drama Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai – a title that borrows an old Punjabi adage meaning, "Experiencing Lahore is so fundamental to a fulfilling life that not seeing it is akin to not truly living or being born".
While the makers have not yet revealed detailed information about the plot, the name and motion poster suggest that the story is set against the backdrop of the partition of India in 1947.
The film features music by AR Rahman, lyrics by Javed Akhtar, and dialogues by Santoshi and Asghar Wajahat.
The film features Sunny Deol in the role alongside Preity Zinta, Ali Fazal, Shabana Azmi, Abhimanyu Singh, Khushi Hajare, Kanikka Kapur, and Karan Deol in other prominent roles.
Initially, the film was planned to be released on January 23, 2025, but it got delayed due to post-production works. The film will hit the theatres on August 14, 2026, coinciding with the Independence Day weekend.
