Tamil superstar Vijay is gearing up for the release of his much-awaited film, Jana Nayagan. Written and directed by H. Vinoth, the action thriller film is scheduled for a worldwide release on January 9,
2026, coinciding with the Pongal.
The film is generating significant buzz ahead of its release as it is the “last film" of Thalapathy Vijay before he joins politics full-time.
Ticket bookings are not yet open in India as the film is scheduled to release in the second week of January. Advance bookings are expected to begin closer to the release date.
While ticket bookings for Jana Nayagan have not yet opened across India, early access and specific regional timelines have been reported for its January 9, 2026, release. Several reports indicate that ticket bookings are expected to open on December 31, 2025, at 11:59 PM.
According to a report in Filmibeat, SSR Entertainments manages the film's distribution in Kerala. Early fan enthusiasm suggests that the first wave of bookings may provide an indication of the film's first reach in one of its main markets.
Meanwhile, bookings for major cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai typically open one week before the release date. Currently, you can set alerts on ticketing platforms to be notified the moment they go live.
Overseas ticket bookings for Jana Nayagan are open and have already set massive benchmarks ahead of the film's January 9, 2026, release. In the UK, the film shattered previous records by selling over 12,700 tickets in its first 24 hours alone, surpassing the initial booking record held by Leo (approximately 10,000 tickets). Within 72 hours, UK pre-sales reportedly exceeded £200,000.
Meanwhile, the film has registered a ticket sale of $26,434 against 123 shows in the first 24 hours of the advance booking, reported Koimoi.
The film is making history as Thalapathy Vijay's final cinematic outing before his full-time transition into politics with his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
Produced by KVN Productions, the upcoming film is likely to have a run time of 3 hours and 6 minutes. In the film, Vijay will be essaying the role of the police officer, alongside Pooja Hegde as the female lead. According to speculations, Bobby Deol will play a powerful negative character in the film.
The film also stars Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Mamita Baiju and others in key roles. According to several media reports, the film will premiere on Prime Video after its theatrical run, while Zee Tamil has bagged the satellite rights.
