What is the story about?
Crunchyroll has partnered with Sony LIV to launch Crunchyroll as an add-on subscription within the Sony LIV platform in India for ₹99 per month.
Under the partnership, Sony LIV subscribers will be able to subscribe to Crunchyroll directly through the platform and access more than 900 anime titles and 160 dubbed shows in languages including English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The companies said a curated selection of anime titles will also be available to Sony LIV subscribers for a limited period without requiring a Crunchyroll subscription.
Crunchyroll has also introduced a limited-period offer on Sony LIV under which users can subscribe to its Monthly Fan Tier at ₹49 instead of ₹99. The offer is valid from May 7 to May 21, 2026, and subscribers availing the offer will continue to be renewed at ₹49 for the following six months.
The ₹99 monthly pricing for the Sony LIV add-on matches Crunchyroll’s standalone Fan tier pricing in India, while remaining lower than the platform’s ₹119-per-month Mega Fan plan, which supports streaming on up to four devices and includes access to Crunchyroll Game Vault.
The partnership comes as anime continues to grow in popularity in India. According to a 2025 study commissioned by Crunchyroll and conducted by National Research Group, 62% of entertainment consumers surveyed in India said they "love" or "like" Japanese anime. Among teenagers surveyed, 74% identified as anime fans.
Before Crunchyroll expanded its India-focused offerings and local pricing in 2023, anime viewers in the country had limited access to licensed streaming options, with many relying on unofficial websites to watch shows. The new arrangement allows Sony LIV users to subscribe to Crunchyroll as an add-on within the platform through an additional monthly subscription.
