Rajinikanth Coolie’s is all set to roar on August 14. The film, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has opened its advance bookings for fans. It is worth noting that Coolie will clash with Ayan Mukerji’s
War 2 at the box office.
As per Sacnilk, the advance bookings of Coolie stand at ₹ 20.36 crore (gross) in India till now. Whereas, War 2, featuring Hrithik Roshan and JR NTR, minted ₹ 4.71 crore (gross) as per Sacnilk.
Coolie has minted “$2 million in premiere pre-sales in North America,’' stated production house Sun Pictures. With this, theRajinikanth powerhouse has become the first Tamil film to cross the feat.
Speaking to NDTV, Trade expert Taran Adarsh said that Coolie is expected to surpass War 2 with a huge margin.
“Cooliehas clearly taken a big, big lead across the globe. Talk about international sales, domestic sales, and the margin is huge. There's no comparison as such. They are not even fighting neck-to-neck,” he said.
Cooliemarks Rajinikanth's 171st film. Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir and Sathyaraj are also part of the film. It will also see Bollywood’s Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan in a special role.
At a promotional event, Rajinikanth opened up about his
first meeting with Lokesh Kanagaraj.
He said, ‘“I asked him [Lokesh Kanagaraj], ‘Do you have a subject in mind for me?’ He said, ‘I do, but first I have to tell you I am a Kamal (Haasan) fan.’”
Rajinikanth also shared his two cents on Lokesh’s Kaithi. “It was brilliant. But then, for the next two or three years, there was nothing from him. Many talented directors vanish after delivering one great film, so I stayed cautious.”
