The Ranveer Singh-led action drama remained in theatres for nearly two months following its 5 December release, continuing to draw audiences well into January before making its digital debut. The film emerged as the highest-grossing single-language Hindi film in India, with domestic net collections crossing the ₹1,000 crore mark. It is now available on Netflix in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
However, the film’s OTT release has sparked discussion online after viewers noticed that the Netflix version appears to be shorter than the theatrical cut.
Shorter runtime on Netflix raises questions
Fans on social media pointed out that Dhurandhar on Netflix runs for approximately 3 hours and 25 minutes, including the post-credit scene, compared to the reported theatrical runtime of 3 hours and 34 minutes. This suggests that around nine minutes of footage may have been trimmed for the streaming version.
Some viewers expressed disappointment over the change, with posts on X questioning whether key scenes had been removed. As of now, there has been no official statement from the production houses, Netflix, or director Aditya Dhar addressing the reported edits.
Industry observers speculate that the trims could be linked to the film’s global digital rollout. With Dhurandhar now streaming in over 190 countries — including regions where it did not receive a theatrical release — edits may have been made to align with international platform standards and regional content sensitivities. This remains unconfirmed.
Makers hail global streaming debut
Despite the debate over runtime, the film’s team has welcomed its arrival on the platform.
“The theatrical response to Dhurandhar was deeply humbling, especially witnessing audiences connect with its story, characters and scale. With its release on Netflix, the film begins a new chapter — reaching farther, inviting new viewers to discover its layers and revisit its moments in their own time,” Dhar said in a statement.
Monika Shergill, Vice-President of Content at Netflix India, described the film as a pop culture moment that has driven widespread conversation. She said Netflix is excited to bring the film to a global audience and highlighted its scale, performances and long-standing creative partnerships with the makers.
Producer Jyoti Deshpande, President of Jio Studios, said the film not only set new box office benchmarks but also showcased Indian storytelling on a global stage. She added that its chapter-style narrative structure resonated strongly with audiences and is well suited to streaming.
Lokesh Dhar of B62 Studios said the film had been driven by ambition and scale from script to screen, and that its digital release would help it reach even wider audiences worldwide.
Star-studded cast and franchise plans
Dhurandhar features an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi. Beyond its box office performance, the film generated several viral moments on social media, from its music to Ranveer Singh’s distinctive hair flip and Akshaye Khanna’s dance sequence.
The film is envisioned as the first part of a two-part gangster saga helmed by Dhar. While the first instalment delves into the violent criminal underworld and gang conflicts, the second part — reportedly planned for an Eid 2026 release — is expected to continue the story on a larger geopolitical canvas.
