The cameras are rolling again on Kalki 2. And with it, a reunion that has been decades in the making. Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan are back on the same project after nearly 40 years.
The two last appeared together in the 1985 film Geraftaar. Now, they find themselves sharing space once more - this time on the sets of the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD.

Bachchan confirmed the development through his personal blog, where he posted photographs from the Hyderabad shoot. He appeared in costume as Ashwatthama, the son of Dronacharya - a role he played in the first film. In one of the posts, he mentioned meeting “the great KAMAL HAASAN” and noted that they would be “working together after ages .. last in Giraftar.”
Bachchan and Haasan previously collaborated in Geraftaar, directed by Prayag Raaj. The 1985 release also featured Poonam Dhillon and Rajnikanth and was among the year’s top-grossing films. Their reunion now comes in a very different cinematic setting.

The actor also informed readers that he would miss his regular Sunday interaction with fans outside his Mumbai residence.
“Told them that this Sunday I shall not be able to come, since I was shooting in Hyderabad,” he wrote, adding that some fans still arrived despite the notice. “Work first .. rest later.”
The Sunday meet-and-greet has become a long-standing ritual for the actor, making his absence notable.
Bachchan described the start of filming simply: “Kalki 2 begun the work.” He also expressed hope that he would return to his usual Sunday interaction soon.
Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin, is a mythological science fiction film set in a dystopian future. The sequel continues the storyline established in the 2024 release, which featured Bachchan alongside Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani.
