The initiative will be delivered through the company's learning platform SkillsBuild and is aimed at expanding access to digital skills and employability for students and adult learners across the country.
The company will work with institutions, including the All India Council for Technical Education, to support hands-on AI learning pathways, faculty enablement programmes, curriculum integration, hackathons and internships.
“India possesses the talent and ambition to lead the world in AI & Quantum,” said Arvind Krishna, chairman, president and chief executive officer at IBM. “Our commitment to skill five million people is an investment in that future.”
IBM will also continue its work at the school level by co-developing an AI curriculum for senior secondary students. This includes teaching resources such as the AI Project Cookbook, Teacher Handbook and explainer modules, with a focus on computational thinking and responsible AI, and on enabling teachers to deliver AI education at scale.
IBM claims that its learning platform has reached more than 1.6 crore learners globally and aims to train 3 crore people worldwide by 2030, with India identified as a key contributor to that target.
