As December sets in, students across the country are eagerly awaiting winter vacations, coinciding with Christmas and New Year celebrations. In several
parts of North India, harsh winter conditions, dense fog, and poor air quality have prompted authorities to either revise school timings or announce early closures, adding to the anticipation among students and parents.
In Delhi, winter vacation for schools is scheduled from December 23 to January 1, with classes set to resume on January 2. However, officials have indicated that the dates may be revised depending on weather conditions and air pollution levels. Parents have been advised to stay updated through official school or district announcements.

In Uttar Pradesh, severe cold and fog have disrupted normal school functioning in many districts. Most districts are expected to observe a 12-day winter break from December 20 to December 31. The state government has also revised school timings, with Classes 1 to 8 operating between 10 am and 3 pm until further notice. In Lucknow, schools for Classes 1 to 12 will now begin after 9 am.
Haryana has not yet officially declared winter vacations, though the state traditionally aligns its schedule with Delhi. The winter break is likely to begin from January 1. Meanwhile, several private schools in Faridabad have already announced holidays for nursery to Class 10 students from January 1 to January 11. The state government has also revised school timings, with schools now operating from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.

In Jammu and Kashmir, winter vacations are already in progress. Pre-primary students are on break from November 26 to February 28, 2026. For Classes 1 to 8, holidays will continue until February 28, 2026, while students in Classes 9 to 12 will observe winter vacations from December 11 to February 22, 2026.
Punjab has announced winter holidays for all schools from December 24 to December 31, with classes resuming on January 1.
In Bihar, authorities have revised school timings in select districts due to cold weather. In Patna and Madhubani, schools are permitted to operate only between 11 am and 3:30 pm, with morning assemblies and first periods temporarily suspended.
With varying schedules across states, education departments have urged parents and students to regularly check official notifications as weather conditions continue to influence school operations
