Indian rupee LIVE updates: The Indian rupee breached the 91-per-dollar mark for the first time in intra-day trade on Tuesday (December 16), extending its slide amid sustained foreign institutional investor (FII) outflows and continued uncertainty over the India–US trade deal.
The local currency has fallen from 90 to 91 in the past 10 trading sessions, losing about 1% against the dollar in the last five sessions alone.
At 11:45 am, the rupee was trading at 91.14, down 36 paise from its previous close. The domestic unit opened at 90.87 and continued to lose ground as the session progressed, following Monday’s (December 15's) all-time low close of 90.78. Market participants say the uncertainty over trade negotiations and persistent dollar demand are keeping the rupee under pressure.
