A significant technological advancement is on its way to India, with the forthcoming introduction of a state-of-the-art GPU-based platform designed for high-performance
computing. This cutting-edge system, known as Helios, is slated for a global rollout that specifically includes India in the latter half of 2026. This strategic decision by the chip manufacturer is a direct response to the escalating global demand for artificial intelligence solutions and the substantial investments being made by major technology corporations to expand their data center infrastructures. The Helios platform is engineered to deliver immense computational power, featuring 72 interconnected accelerators within a single rack. This configuration boasts an impressive FP4 compute performance of up to 2.9 exaflops per rack, making it exceptionally well-suited for the intensive data processing demands of modern AI applications. This launch signifies a critical step in enhancing India's capacity to support and drive forward the rapidly evolving field of AI.
The GPU Demand Surge
The current global landscape is experiencing an unprecedented surge in demand for graphics processing units (GPUs), largely fueled by the explosive growth of artificial intelligence. In a move underscoring its commitment to India's burgeoning AI ecosystem, the chipmaker has joined forces with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). This collaboration is focused on the joint development of an AI-ready rack-scale infrastructure, built upon the foundation of the Helios platform. This partnership is an integral part of India's broader national strategy to advance artificial intelligence capabilities. Together, AMD and TCS aim to deliver a comprehensive blueprint for AI-ready data centers, capable of supporting substantial capacities of up to 200 megawatts. This initiative will actively involve working with hyperscalers and AI companies to expedite the construction and deployment of data centers throughout India.
