According to Nick Turley, who leads ChatGPT, the current approach is akin to providing infinite electricity, an unsustainable proposition in the long run. This aligns with the vision of CEO Sam Altman, who has advocated for viewing artificial intelligence as a fundamental utility, much like water or power. Presently, a free tier remains available, alongside the Pro plan priced at ₹19,900 per month, a rate that has been consistent since late 2024. This re-evaluation signals a broader industry trend towards adapting pricing strategies to the rapid evolution and increasing integration of AI technologies into daily operations.
Industry-Wide Pricing Evolution
The broader artificial intelligence sector is actively investigating and implementing novel pricing frameworks. Turley emphasizes that the relentless pace of technological advancement necessitates flexible and evolving pricing strategies. He assures that a free access option will persist, ensuring accessibility for all users. Illustrating this trend, Microsoft has explored charging clients on a 'per agent' basis, a departure from the traditional 'per user' model. Similarly, Anthropic has already introduced pay-as-you-go plans.
