Deepinder Goyal’s attempt to reconnect with former team members has sparked an unexpectedly massive response. The Zomato founder on Wednesday revealed that his recent outreach inviting past employees to write in has resulted in an overwhelming flood of emails, running into the thousands.Sharing an update on X, Goyal disclosed that the response far exceeded his expectations. “A quick update on back@eternal.com. Over the last week, we received over 8,000 emails. About 4,000 from people who have been part of the Eternal journey at some point. Rest from people who haven’t worked here but want to. Thank you so much for this. I didn’t expect this at all,” he wrote.According to Goyal, many of the emails were deeply personal, filled with nostalgia,
candid reflections and detailed accounts of past experiences. He described them as “full of emotions and honesty,” adding that several messages included years-old context that only someone closely involved in the company’s journey would fully understand. This, he explained, has made it challenging for current teams to filter and evaluate them efficiently.
“Eternal is in its late teens right now. The only person who can truly read these emails and know who to respond to is me. And it is not humanly possible for me to read through 8,000 emails, and pick and choose the right ones to respond to, quickly,” he added, while assuring senders that every message is being reviewed, even if the process takes time.In a move that surprised many, Goyal also suggested a more personal shortcut for those who had worked closely with him. “If you worked with me directly, and you wrote in, and you are waiting for a reply, here is what will work quickly: find my number and WhatsApp me. Looking forward to reconnect,” he said.As the post gained traction, social media platforms were flooded with reactions. Several users humorously asked how one might “find” his number, while a few even claimed to share it in the comments section. Others applauded Goyal for being “transparent” and accessible, praising his willingness to engage directly despite the scale of the response.
