‘Only in India’- can a cop’s ‘hair colour’ make major headlines– which is exactly what happened after an Odisha police officer’s ‘flamboyant red hair colour’ went viral on social media. 49-year-old DSP Rashmi Ranjan Das found himself in the middle of a rather unexpected controversy, after a video of him began to circulate on social media. Reportedly, Das was deployed to disperse a protest on Wednesday, January 28, in Jagatsinghpur. It was during this protest that the cop’s ‘red hair’ caught the eye of protesters- who soon began to question his ‘decorum’.A video of the same was shared online, which went viral, resulting in Das and his hair landing in hot water. This was surely not the first time that Das was flaunting his unique hair colour while
on-duty; however, it became the day when it gained the unwanted attention from everyone. On the internet, it was mostly trolling that followed; however, off the internet, it was more serious trouble that left Das questioning his ‘hair decision’: a formal warning from a senior officer.Reportedly, Satyajit Nayak, Inspector General, Central Range, Odisha, issued a formal warning to Das on Thursday, January 29, where he instructed him to change his hair colour to his natural colour. “Everyone in the police force must respect the uniform and give utmost priority to discipline and public decorum,” Nayak said. Coming back to the video, the clip showed Das in a heated interaction with one of the protesters in Jagatsinghpur on January 28.Watch the viral video:
