A married couple in distress, who simply wanted to rest while visiting a hospitalised relative in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, found themselves in deeper trouble– all because a man refused to believe that they were married, over the wife “not looking married enough”! Sounds like a typical “misogynistic mindset-driven” incident? Taking to social media, the couple shared a rather problematic video, which showed a hotel staff member refusing to give them their online booked room. The reason for this refusal was that the “room was for couples”, and THIS couple was “not looking married”. The man even questioned the duo’s "different surnames”.The clip showed the couple confronting the man for his behaviour and his thought process. As per the post, the couple was in Prayagraj for the man’s
sister, who was in the hospital. The said hotel was right behind the hospital, which is why they decided to book it online though Agoda. However, things took a different turn after the duo reached the hotel. At one point, the hotel staff member even questioned the identity of the woman’s mother-in-law, saying that he wanted to check her ID to “match it”.As per the post, Agoda “processed the refund despite the hotel refusing”, OYO, however, made the couple “repeat” their “humiliation over and over”. “Agoda stepped up: absorbed the cost and processed the refund despite the hotel refusing. OYO kept us on call after call, made us repeat our humiliation over and over - and still flatly denied,” the post read.Check out the viral post: “My husband booked a hotel through Agoda- Hotel O Courtyard Villa, Prayagraj. We were there because my sister-in-law was in the hospital and the hotel was right behind. My mother-in-law needed to come freshen up between visits. The front desk man said: ye couple logon ka room hai. When we said we’re married: aap dono ka surname alag hai, shaadi shuda kaise maan le? Then: aap kidhar se shaadi shuda lagti hain? And then- kaise maan le aapki mummy hain?,” the post read. “I am 32 years old. I chose not to change my surname. That is my right. He decided I don’t look married. He decided my mother-in-law couldn’t enter. He questioned whether she was even my husband’s mother and needed ID proof. He humiliated us when all we wanted was a room to rest and just no more stress,” the post continued. The post was shared on Instagram by the handle ‘roastedbytwo’. The post was shared a while back and pulled many views from people.
