A tense scene inside a private bank branch in Kanpur has triggered widespread outrage online after a video showing a confrontation between a bank employee and a customer began circulating on social media. The bank employee has now issued a clarification video on her Instagram account, stating that the person was not a customer. The incident reportedly took place at the bank’s Panki branch in Uttar Pradesh. The female employee involved, identified by several reports as Aastha Singh, was allegedly accused of behaving aggressively during an argument with a male customer. In the viral footage shared widely on platforms such as X, she can be seen standing up from her desk, shouting at the customer, and forcefully gesturing with a laptop, creating
a visibly hostile atmosphere inside the branch. What has drawn the sharpest criticism, however, is an alleged remark made during the exchange. Singh is heard saying, “Thakur hoon main (I am a Thakur),” a statement many viewers believe was meant to assert caste identity as a form of intimidation. The confrontation also reportedly involved the use of abusive language, further escalating tensions and turning a routine banking interaction into a chaotic public episode.Note: Times now could not independently verify the authenticity of the post.
The video sparked strong reactions across social media, with users calling the behaviour highly unprofessional and unbecoming of someone in a customer-facing role at a major private bank. Several posts have tagged the bank directly, demanding accountability, a formal inquiry, and strict disciplinary action against the employee involved. As of now, the private bank at the centre of the controversy has not released any official public statement addressing the incident. Additionally, no police complaint has reportedly been filed in connection with the matter so far.
Kanpur Bank Employee's Clarification VideoIn the clarification video, she said, “Namaskar. Pichhle dino mera ek video viral ho raha hai. Ab main apna paksh rakhna chahti hoon. Yeh video January 6 ka hai. Yeh kisi customer ka video nahi hai, aur maine kisi customer se aisa nahi bola hai. Yeh hamare ek karyakarta ka video hai, aur isse galat tareeke se jaatiwaad ka mudda banaya gaya hai. Ismein hua yeh tha ki hamare yahan ek mahila kaam karti thi jinhone resignation letter de diya tha aur unhe usi din relieving chahiye thi. Unki nanad subah se meri branch mein aakar baithi thi, aur meri unse thodi si behes ho gayi.'' (“Greetings. For the past few days, one of my videos has been going viral. I would now like to present my side of the story. This video is from January 6. It is not a video involving any customer, and I did not say anything like this to any customer. The video features one of our staff members, and it has been wrongly portrayed as an issue of caste. What actually happened was that a woman working with us had submitted her resignation letter and wanted to be relieved on the same day. Her sister-in-law had been sitting in my branch since morning, and I had a minor argument with her.”)She further said, ''Baad mein unhone hamare yahan kaam karne wali mahila ke husband ko bataya. Jab unke husband working hours khatam hone ke baad aaye, toh unhone theek tareeke se baat nahi ki. Unhone kaha, ‘Main tumhari hekdi nikaal dunga,’ aur abhadra bhasha ka istemal kiya. Isliye maine aisa kaha.'' (
“Later, she informed the husband of the woman who works at our branch. When he arrived after working hours, he did not speak properly. He said, ‘I will straighten you out,’ and used abusive language. That is why I responded the way I did.”)She finally concluded, ''Haan, mere shabd galat the. Main logon ki seva ke liye hoon. Lekin agar koi vyakti mujhse is tarah baat karega, toh main chup nahi baithungi.” (“Yes, my words were wrong. I am here to serve people. But if someone speaks to me in that manner, I will not remain silent.”)
